In this installation view of the video “if the blue sky, if movement,” a second smaller video was made in response shares the space. This video documents actions with my sister as we attempt to ride an altered tandem bike around a city park traffic island. We are trying to go for a bike ride together, so that my sister can experience a bike ride, something she had not done in nearly twenty years. We were successful with the help of random strangers they encounter in the park. The front chain has been detached so that the person in the rear pedals and the person in the front steers and breaks which requires less physical exertion. Removing a component of the tandem system accentuates the interdependency of the relationship between the riders. Both are active participants and necessary for the system. The videos and objects in the space are in dialog with each other. The bike can be checked out to be ridden and experienced directly.
